York Proms 2025 FAQs

The next York Proms is Sunday 27th July 2025. Please check out our Frequently Asked Questions below before you book your tickets and for any other questions you may have.

Ticket Information

When will tickets be taken off sale - can we buy on the gate?

Tickets are ONLY able to be booked in advance. Please note NO tickets will be sold on the gate.

How do I receive my tickets?

Tickets will be delivered by email to be downloaded so they can be printed, shown as email tickets or added to your Apple iPhone Wallet. Tickets are emailed out immediately after order. For tickets bought from the Visit York Information Centre, your tickets will be emailed to you directly within 7-10 days, or sent to the information centre if you've requested they print your tickets for you to be collected.

Is there a carer ticket for disabled ticket holders?

Disabled and carer tickets can be booked with Visit York information centre or via the website.  You must arrive together. There is also a Disabled Blue Badge Holder ticket, which allows fast track entry. Please see ticket descriptions for full information about disabled ticket types and entry times etc.

How do I book using my Activity Superstore gift experience?

If you have an Activity Superstore voucher you will need to fill in this form. The voucher entitles you to two Adult General Admission tickets. Should you wish to order more tickets please do so via the online box office.

I haven't received an order confirmation email, what should I do?

Firstly, please check your junk folder as it is very rare for a confirmation email not to be sent out. If you cannot find it, or it has already been automatically deleted, please fill in this form and we will look into it for you. Please check ALL email addresses you use as you may have used a different one than your normal address. Sometimes it is as simple as a typo in the email address.

Can I re-sell or give away my tickets?

Standard tickets are non transferable. Please do not advertise your tickets for sale online otherwise your tickets may be cancelled without a refund.

I can't go anymore, what can I do with my tickets?

Please see ticket description in the box office to see the refund schedule. Please contact us if you can no longer attend after the partial refund period and we will do our best to help.

Do you do Family Tickets?

This year we do not have family tickets, to keep things simple. We have kept child and teen ticket prices very low. Child tickets are for people aged 5-15 years. Under 5s are free. There is a maximum number of 4 children under 15 per adult, regardless of whether free or paid. Please get in touch if you need clarification on this. A teen ticket is available for 16-17 year olds. Under 16s are automatically considered the same admission queue as their accompanying adult on the day (priority or general admission).

Travel & Location

How can I get to the York Proms?

We encourage people to travel to the York Proms using public transport or on foot where possible. If you are living or staying in the city centre, the gardens are walkable. There are bike racks by the Library on Museum Street. The train station is about a 5-10 minute walk away. There is a taxi rank on Duncombe Place, which is in front of the Minster, and at the train station.  There are bus stops at the train station and a large stop outside the Museum Gardens, on Museum Street. Please consult timetables and please note the Park and Ride may be CLOSED by the time the concert finishes. You can find out more information about transport in York here: www.itravelyork.info

Where do I park?

There are numerous car parks around the city centre. The Park and Ride services close early on a Sunday. There is a car park on Marygate, but this will fill quickly, so be early to avoid missing out. There is a multi storey car park on Tanner Row, which is only a 5-10 minute walk from the gardens and closes at midnight.

Can I Use the Park and Ride?

Please note: the Park and Ride may be CLOSED by the time the concert finishes. You can find out more information here: www.itravelyork.info

General Information

When is the next York Proms?

The next York Proms is Sunday 27th July 2025. More information to come soon.

Is there disabled access?

Yes, the Museum Gardens is wheelchair accessible but please be aware the audience will be seated on the grass. This may become more tricky for wheelchairs if the weather has been wet and the ground is soft. We have a designated area for wheelchair users this year but you're not obliged to use this if you would rather sit elsewhere. If you want to book a wheelchair space please get in touch with the Visit York Information Centre on 01904 555670 to book. Wheelchair users will be brought into the gardens by dedicated staff members shortly ahead of the gates opening for fast track entry, to ensure you are unhurried and safe, and that you are settled into your area. There will also be drinking water and shade should it be a hot day, so you aren't waiting in the sun for too long.  If you are struggling with waiting in the queue in the heat, please speak to one of our volunteers (wearing a high visibility vest) and we can help you.

What time do the gates open and what time does the show start?

The gardens will close in advance of the show and reopen on both Museum Street and Marygate for. We recommend disabled ticket holders use the Marygate gate.  The main evening show start time is yet to be confirmed, but we recommend being seated on the lawn ready to watch the show by 7pm as we expect it to begin at 7.30pm. There will be warm up acts ahead of the show too, starting around 5.30pm. The gates open for Fast Track and disabled ticket holders at 5pm and everyone else at 5.30pm.

What time will the event finish?

The show will be finished by 10.30pm, after a planned firework finale.

Can I bring picnic furniture?

You may bring folding chairs, cool boxes/hampers and picnic blankets. Please do not bring gazebos, parasols, large umbrellas, tables or disposable barbeques. Small personal umbrellas may be used unless we are struggling with sightlines or safety, in which case you will be asked to take it down. Ticket holders are kindly asked NOT to spread out with space in the centre of your group. If you leave gaps someone may end up sitting in it as we do not have the space for everyone to spread out. Please do not use furniture or string/bunting to create an area of space for your group as you may be asked to remove this so other people can be seated. Do not tie string or bunting between seats, across a gap, as this is a trip hazard in the case of an emergency evacuation.

Can I save space for my friends who are coming later?

No. Please do not reserve space on the grass for people who haven't arrived as it goes against the idea of people queuing early, in good faith, to get their preferred position, and can cause safety issues. Audience members are not packed into the space tightly, so it is usually possible to add another person, or two, next to their friends later on. The audience seating area is big enough for everybody, but only if we work together and we are considerate to those sharing the space.

Where will the stage be positioned and is it different to last year?

The stage will, again, be positioned on the terrace in front of The Yorkshire Museum. We will also have a second stage for the community acts. Please note, ALL these plans may change due to circumstances outside our control on the day.

Is there a fireworks finale?

Yes, all being well with licensing and legal issues, there will be a fireworks finale similar to previous years. The fireworks will be fired from behind the abbey ruins this year, unless circumstances beyond our control on the day prevent sthis. The fireworks will be a low noise display.

Can I buy refreshments on the day?

Yes. There will be a range of local suppliers to keep you fed and watered. We will have hot drinks, soft drinks, alcoholic drinks, cakes, etc.  Please see the About page for more information.

Can I bring a picnic?

Of course, we encourage audience members to bring a picnic and enjoy the day. You may not bring barbeques or use naked flames. Please avoid bringing large, sharp kitchen knives that could be hazardous and please be very careful with glasses, or bring plastic glasses if possible. Glass bottles are fine. There will be glass recycling points on the day and we encourage everyone to use them.

Can I bring alcohol?

Unlike where the gardens are open to the public, you are permitted to bring your own alcohol to the event. We do ask audience members to not drink to excess and anyone engaging in behaviour that is deemed by our security staff to be unreasonably impacting others or is dangerous will be told to leave.

Can I order a picnic to collect on the day?

Picnics will be on sale ahead of the event. Please see the Picnics page for details and to book a picnic.

What happens if it rains?

The show must go on! As with all outdoor concerts held in the UK, a bit of rain won't dampen our spirits and the show will continue as normal. Please check the weather forecasts and come prepared for rain or sun, ensuring you bring rain macs or sunblock, depending on what is needed. The only time the show would be cancelled is in the event of extreme inclement weather, including very high winds that make it unsafe to use the stage. In this case the promoters will do their best to contact everyone to inform them. The promoters take no responsibility for cancelled hotel or travel costs, but these can often be recovered with travel insurance policies. Please note, the use of umbrellas is not permitted on the lawn due to safety and visibility issues. Please bring a waterproof coat/poncho in the case of rain.

Are dogs allowed?

No dogs are allowed except assistance dogs. Please ensure your assistance dog is predictable with fireworks.

Is there space for children to run around if they get restless?

Yes, you can take your child away from the main lawn area if they are getting restless and disturbing those around them or they need some distraction, but they MUST be supervised by an adult at all times and they must be taken towards the river side of the gardens, not closer to the stage where they could disturb other audience members trying to enjoy the concert. Unsupervised children will be taken back to their parents and security may ask you to leave as the gardens is not a safe area for children to run around and play in unsupervised.

Is smoking permitted?

Smoking and vaping is NOT permitted on the lawn area where the audience is seated, but smoking is permitted elsewhere in the gardens.

Will the artist line up change?

Although we make every effort to announce the guest artists in advance there may be times when a change to the programme is unavoidable. The promoter reserves the right to make changes to the programme.

Will there be toilets and baby change facilities?

There will be toilets available, including disabled and baby change.

Will there be first aid on the day?

Yes, there will be a first aid point and we have event medics on hand for any problems that may arise on the day.

What do we do with our rubbish?

There will be bins at the exits on the day. We would advise bringing some small rubbish bags to put waste into before depositing the bags at the exits. Where possible, please keep recyclable waste separate as all waste is sorted for recycling.

What are your environmental considerations?

We take our environmental impact seriously and, as a result, we have things in place to ensure our impact is limited as much as possible. This includes a low noise fireworks display, all waste sorted for recycling after the event, caterers using biodegradable and recycled containers wherever possible, no unnecessary excess waste produced, like single use plastic water bottles, plus we encourage audience members, performers and staff to walk, lift share or take public transport where possible.
